Quarantine healthy habits: stick with 5-2-1-0
These four steps are the simple way for everyone to stay on track
5-2-1-0 is an evidence-based set of simple steps that have shown to help keep a person at a healthy weight if done together on most days. You’re probably doing one, two, three, or even four of these at home already. We know how hard limiting screen time is, especially now, so we shared some helpful tools in last week’s blog post. The other three steps should be a little easier now that the weather is changing, it’s staying light out longer, and summer produce is coming into season. Farmers markets are starting to safely open, and see below for a huge produce distribution from Gleaners this Saturday (5/16) at the State Fairgrounds and next Saturday (5/23) at the Motor Speedway. For more helpful ways to help make 5-2-1-0 fit in your family’s daily lives, go here.
Mega Fresh Mobile Pantry at State Fairgrounds
Fresh and healthy food available this Saturday from our friends at Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana Inc. Please share this widely.
Gleaners will present a no contact, drive through distribution at the Indiana State Fairgrounds on Saturday, May 16, 2020 from 10am-3pm. All food will be fresh, perishable items and while supplies last:
– 20 lb. box of mixed fresh vegetables
– 12 lb. box of mixed fresh fruit
– 5 lb. box of mixed frozen meat
Cars should enter Gate 6 (off of Fall Creek Parkway) and follow directions upon entry. Cars may line up beginning at 8am.
Walk-ins will be welcomed at Gate 1. Bring a cart, backpack, luggage or something to carry the food. There is a bus stop at that gate.
There will be another Mega Fresh Mobile at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday, May 23, 2020 from 10am-3pm.
Mini workout of the week: Jump Rope Water Splash
In central Indiana, the heat is finally coming our way! Now is the time to think about more outdoor activities with your family – we all need some fresh air, sunshine, and running around outdoors. Our friends at Action for Healthy Kids have shared a fun family game that involves cups of water and a jump rope. You can modify it however you like, and be sure to include the whole family.
Materials: jump rope(s), plastic cups and water
How to play:
1.) Assign two players to hold each end of the jump rope
2.) Give the other children (or adults) a plastic cup full of water
3.) While the large jump rope twirls, jumpers one-by-one should try to do three consecutive jumps while holding their cup of water.
4.) The child that has the most water left is the winner!
5.) You can keep playing until one person has water left in their cup.
